A Soul’s DNA – Create

(Part 2 of the Soul’s DNA series)

Part 1 of this series led off with a manifesto for living called Entrepreneurs Of Life. Part 2 here is all about the “Go Space” in the game of life. It’s the starting line. The source code. The “stem cell” origins of who we are in this world.

One thing we find when we start unpacking the source code is that we have received a mandate to create. Here’s how it plays out.

*************************************************

In the Bible, Genesis and Revelation are the “bookends” of recorded history. Here’s what we know:

Genesis:  In the beginning, God created.   We know from the first words of Scripture that God creates.

Revelation:  Behold, I am making all things new.  We know from the last words of Scripture that God has been continually creating.

Between the bookends – in history and time and space – He created us humanfolk in His own image (Genesis 1:27).  So it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine that, as image bearers, somewhere deep within our hard wiring, we are coded to create. We carry a spark of the Divine. A creative spark.

Without getting too far into the weeds (for example, why does Ecclesiastes say that there is nothing new under the sun?), my reading of these and other passages means that we are empowered and free to create. It means that the status quo of this world is malleable. It means that none of our frustrating institutions, traditions or environments are permanent – IF we take up the call to create.

But it’s more than just answering a call. If we choose to innovate, invent, adapt, learn, stretch, grow, press the envelope, etc., it is essentially an act of worship. By laying hold of that strand of creative DNA, and by pursuing and deploying it, the change we affect is God breathed. Our life’s work becomes a living prayer.

These are ancient truths.  As we tap into our God given DNA, we replicate His nature in our organizations, families and workplaces. We envision. We realign.  We develop.  Do R & D.  Seek opportunities.  Open markets.  Reconcile relationships. We’re missional.  We know that better exists.

Our calling is to create a new normal.  A redeemed normal.  Our example is Christ.  He never seems to have much affinity for the status quo.  He’s always making, molding, calling, healing, creating.

Carpe deim.  May we never stop looking to create a God inspired, grace infused future for everyone in our lives.

Part 3 of this series will discuss how we gain access to the source of creativity.
