If my mind was a backpack, you could open it up and find all kinds of stuff. Stuff from trips I took years ago is buried way down in the bottom of the pack. Other stuff from more recent trips is still pretty accessible up near the top. But it’s all part of the stuff I carry around and for some reason or another.
Sometimes I go digging around in my backpack and find stuff I want to blog about. So that’s what I write about – the stuff in my backpack. There’s no particular agenda here. Just talking about my stuff.
I look at my stuff from a Christian worldview. If you read any of my stuff, you’ll have to put up with this.
I reflect a lot on the influential things in my life. All this stuff is in the Backpack section. This is an area for my general mind dump.
I read a lot, so I maintain a book list and various thoughts about Books and Media under that heading.
The Family, Travel and Christmas section is pretty self explanatory.
The Challenge 2025 section is new as of July, 2024. It’s all about the goals I’m working on for the coming year.
Career
This isn’t my first rodeo. For a snapshot of my career up to now, visit my LinkedIn profile.
I am currently the COO at EquityVest, a Fintech platform that launched in 2022. We help entrepreneurs and businesses raise the capital they need to launch and expand their businesses. Our platform works with faith-driven businesses that are seeking to generate profits AND promote a more virtuous society.
Church & Volunteer Roles
Our family has lived in the Denver Metro area since 1986. I served as the Director of Development at New Life Community Church in Aurora for several years where I led a capital campaign and did a building expansion.
In 2010 our family moved to Highlands Ranch, CO, and began attending Cherry Hills Community Church. At Cherry Hills, I served as a Promotional Strategist for Willow Creek’s Global Leadership Network.
In 2016 – 2018 I volunteered as a “business ninja” for 10.10.10, a very unique startup incubator that attempts to tackle 10 wicked problems over 10 days by challenging 10 entrepreneurs to develop market-based solutions to issues in healthcare, smart cities, water & other issues. We had 2 cohorts per year, several of which have gained traction in the marketplace.
I have occasionally served as a volunteer judge for Prime Health Colorado, a startup accelerator that awards funding to startup companies focused on underserved health populations.
Finally, I occasionally volunteer with Breakthrough, a nonprofit that provides entrepreneurial education for incarcerated individuals. This is one of the coolest things I have ever been a part of. Let’s go to prison!!
Family
My wife Lisa & I met while volunteering at a Campus Life ministry in Topeka, KS. We were married in 1983 and moved to Colorado 1986. We did our empty nest years first, as it was 18 years before our son Weston arrived in 2001. Our daughter Aubrey followed in 2004.
Lisa is the Executive Director at an early childhood center. She completed her Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Grand Canyon University in 2016. Her daily motto is that “it’s a great day to teach baby humans!”
Interests
I’ve spent years hiking and biking all around Colorado. Rooting interests are Kansas Jayhawk basketball, the Denver Pioneers hockey and gymnastics teams and the Kansas City Chiefs. Being a dad & husband trumps it all – best days ever!
I try to read 2-3 books per month on a variety of personal and professional interests.

Taylor – have gotten detoured by focusing on our Twitter strategy for the past few months. Twitter has been very, very good to us.
Have been thinking daily about the blog & have a number of posts planned. This will be a major focus for me in 2011.
Thanks for the encouragement & would be happy to connect. Merry Christmas!
